Breaking Down Acne with CBD

Updated: Dec 17, 2019

Hemp is on its greatest comeback in over 80 years on a global scale, especially in the United States since Trump administration passed Farm Bill in December 2018. Along with the rise of Hemp and Cannabis crops, we are experiencing the CBD wave from food to the beauty industry!

Since CBD is all about the wonderful health benefits it brings to the day to day, we wanted to cover one of the most common skin conditions in humans, acne. Though there are many factors to influence acne, a common list is excess sebum productions from human sebocytes, diet, cortisol levels, hormone malfunctions like PCOS, and even some medications. In a September 2014 study [1], it was shown CBD prevents sebocytes {1} from creating a surplus of oily sebum which is usually because of hereditary factors in most patients. CBD oil has shown to trigger an anti-inflammatory reaction in these cells preventing cytokines {2} from activation, reducing chances of further breakouts. Though ingestion is a way to reduce inflammation all over the body and can help with acne, studies showed CBD directly on the cells of the skin makes topical best for acne treatment.

There is evidence to suggest that CBD oil may help with the treatment of acne and though we have further research to wait for in the future, anyone wanting to know more should talk to their skincare Specialists and Cannabis Health Coaches for all the information.
